Grand Canyon National Park is one of the few remaining “wild” places in the lower 48. Many species of wild animals live within the park borders, including the Mountain Lion or “Cougar”. Pictured here is an adult Cougar on the prowl at the South Rim with Vishnu Temple and Woton’s Throne rising in the background. |

Looking across the Canyon from the North Rim, a Mountain Lion defies gravity with cat like agility on the cliff rocks. Brahma and Deva Temple fill the void between rims with the San Francisco Peaks in the distance. Cougars were virtually wiped off the North Rim by early Canyon hunter, Uncle Jimmy Owens. Cougars are still at the Grand Canyon, but seldom seen. |

While displaying my artwork on the back porch of the El Tovar Hotel around 2002, two Bald Eagles flew by passing over Isis Temple, thus inspiring this piece. Eagles, being good fishers, are actually not often seen around the rims due to the lack of water. They were most likely passing through. |

We all know the story of “Brighty”, the Grand Canyon Donkey that endeared himself to many Canyon residents in the very early days, yet maintained his independence traveling up and down the Canyon trails. There were many “Descendents” of those early Canyon Donkeys that were invaluable to the first settlers of the Canyon. Here a Donkey enjoys his freedom in Marble canyon prior to the round-ups and removal of the non-native creature later on. |

“GAGEE”, is the Navajo word for Raven. If visitors to the Grand Canyon see no other wildlife while here, they will surely see Ravens, one of the smartest and most cunning creatures at the Canyon. Perched on a snag at the end of Cape Royal on the North Rim, Vishnu Temple juts up into the Canyon void. A Raven flies free over the rim….Gagee free! |
